While enjoying a nice afternoon in Niagara Falls, NY, i noticed that we were being watched and listened to, but not by the people that were around us.
I heard an aircraft above us and looked up, only to realize that the aircraft was no ordinary aircraft. What i was looking at, was a Boeing RC-135V/W Rivet Joint.
Luckily, i had my 18-135 attached to my X-Pro1, so i was at least able to capture the aircraft and get some decent photos – i had left my 50-230 at the hotel.
The aircraft circled above a good number of times and i would imagine his primary reason for being on station, was because of the border crossing (Rainbow Bridge) right below him.
So, what does this aircraft do? Well, it pretty much “looks” at everything in the electromagnetic spectrum (radio signals, mobile phone signals, etc.) and verifies if there is any sort of threat. Basically, it is looking for trouble. If it finds trouble, the proper “authorities” will be notified.
It was a pretty cool capture for me and i doubt that i will get the chance to take a photo of another RC-135 any time soon.
Thanks for looking.
